Square to Round Pan Conversion (Area Math, Table, When Not to Convert)

The formula
equivalent round diameter = side × 1.128
Square ↔ round equivalents
| Square | Equal-area round |
|---|---|
| 6" square | ≈ 6.8" round |
| 7" square | ≈ 7.9" round |
| 8" square | ≈ 9.0" round |
| 9" square | ≈ 10.2" round |
| 10" square | ≈ 11.3" round |
When not to convert
Chiffon needs tube-pan walls; brownies want square corners; madeleines want shells. Same area ≠ same cake.
Tall cakes: volume
Very different pan heights: multiplier = target volume ÷ original volume.
